Large Art Nouveau jug, completely identifiable of this style, made of silvered pewter, richly decorated in relief with an allegory of the god Bacchus. On the front stands out a faun accompanied by two naked young women, one of them masterfully integrated as the jug's handle, together with two putti and a profuse ornamentation of grapes and vine leaves. Signed piece, of great sculptural strength and extraordinary decorative and collector value.
French sculptor trained at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris, in the workshop of Alexandre Falguière. He made his debut in 1889 at the Salon des Artistes Français, of which he was a member, and received an honorable mention at the Salon of 1890. In 1909, he presented a portrait of the writer Jehanne d'Orliac, depicted as a horsewoman, at the Salon. His work includes portraits, genre scenes and allegorical compositions, as well as funerary commissions and equestrian statues.
Ettlinger Frères, foundry and publisher, was an early 20th century foundry specialized in the production of pewter objects, especially linked to the Art Nouveau style. The house was associated with works by artists such as François Madurell and Joseph Berthier.
