DESCRIPTION
Pair of Art Noveau amphorae; France, late 19th century.
Patinated bronze.
Measurements: 20 x 7 x 6 cm (x2); 22,5 x 11 x 11 cm (height with stand).
Patinated bronze amphorae, made in France towards the end of the 19th century, an example of the Art Nouveau style, an artistic movement that sought to break with the academic canons of the 19th century through the incorporation of organic lines, naturalistic motifs and a refined decorative sense. The pieces present a symmetrical and elegant composition, with reliefs that evoke mythological faces and ornamental elements of vegetal inspiration, integrating the sculptural and the functional.
