DESCRIPTION
WILHELM OSKAR PRACK (Germany, 1869 - 1943) .
"Female nude".
Patinated bronze and wooden base.
Signed.
Measurements: 72,5 x 19 x 18 cm.
Sculpture made in bronze that represents a feminine nude of classicist aesthetics, conceived with a formal sobriety that clearly refers to the German academic tradition. The figure stands in a frontal posture, barely marked by a subtle contrapposto that softens the verticality of the body. Its anatomy, carefully studied, reveals a polished and continuous modeling, where the transition between volumes, from the torso to the extremities, is resolved with a delicacy that emphasizes the serenity of the whole. The face, slightly turned and endowed with an introspective expression, introduces a nuance of emotional distance that reinforces the contemplative character of the piece.
The surface treatment shows the sculptor's interest in a moderate idealization of the female body: anatomical fidelity is not sacrificed, but irregularities are attenuated to achieve a restrained and balanced beauty.
Wilhelm Oskar Prack, a German sculptor active between the end of the 19th century and the first decades of the 20th, developed a work deeply anchored in late academicism, direct heir of the Central European academies. His production focused on allegorical subjects, portraits and nudes, in which he combined a rigorous mastery of anatomy with a sense of decorum and harmony characteristic of his training. This work is an exemplary synthesis of his artistic language: a defense of the body as an aesthetic ideal, modeled with technical discipline and classical sensibility.
