Marcello Tommasi belonged to a lineage of artists. He initially graduated in Art History, although he soon became a painter and sculptor. Considered the "symbolic heir to the Neoplatonism of the Quattrocento", his work exudes a love of classicism, both formally - the statuary of antiquity and the Renaissance - and in terms of content - Greek myths" He lived and worked between Paris and Florence, where he had his studio. His works are in the Cabinet of Drawings and Prints of the Uffizi, in the National Museum of Warsaw, in the MNAC of Barcelona, in Piacenza and the Vatican; in the Azorin Museum of Monovar and in the Museo Casa Natale di Michelangelo Buonarroti of Caprese Michelangelo; in the National Library of Paris, in the University of Pisa and in the Institute of History of Art of the University of Florence. Numerous sculptures and groups in bronze and marble by Tommasi can be found in monumental churches, public buildings and important squares in Italy and abroad. To cite just a few of the main ones: Carolina, Paris, Piazza Gabriel Perné; Ilaria, Charenton-le-Pont, at the entrance to the Town Hall; Fountain of Liberty, Paris, Piazza Léon Blum; Bronze door of the church of Santa Maria Magdalene de Pazzi, Florence; Bronze panels for the door of the Church of San Giovanni Evangelista, Montelupo Fiorentino; "Apollo and Daphne", Florence, Piazza della Libertà Via Crucis, Pietrasanta, Cathedral of San Martino.
