DESCRIPTION
GIUSEPPE GAMBOGI (Italy, 1862–1938)
“Young Woman Leaning on a Vase.”
Signed.
It has fractures on some of the fingers and a crack at waist level.
Measurements: 43 x 15 x 15 cm.
Giuseppe Gambogi presents a sculpture that fully embodies the refined taste of the Belle Époque, at a time of transition between the final expressions of Romanticism and the modernist sensibility of Art Nouveau. The idealization of the female figure, the restrained sensuality of the forms, the fluidity of the lines, and the pronounced ornamental element place the piece within a sculptural movement particularly prized by the European bourgeoisie of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Giuseppe Gambogi, who spent part of his career in Paris and participated in the French salons, gained recognition for this type of sculpture, characterized by its elegant design and meticulous craftsmanship.
