DESCRIPTION
Pair of cherubs for an altarpiece; 17th century.
Carved, polychrome, and gilded wood.
They show signs of wear and tear due to the passage of time.
Measurements: 14 x 14 x 60 cm (x2).
Pair of architectural ornamental elements intended for the decoration of an altarpiece, made of carved, polychrome, and gilded wood. They feature cherub heads with blond, curly hair, accompanied by small wings crossed beneath the chin, in a composition of great decorative power and marked frontality, designed for integration into an architectural ensemble.
Despite the wear and tear inherent to the passage of time, these pieces retain the appeal of 17th-century religious decorative sculpture and bear witness to the ornamental repertoire used in Baroque altarpieces.
