BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Postcard with photograph of the BAUHAUS in Dessau, 1928.
Handwritten in German, signed and dated.
Measures: 9 x 14 cm.
Handwritten postcard with photograph of the building designed by Walter Gropius in 1925. The avant-garde Bauhaus school, founded in Weimar by Gropius, moved to Dessau in 1925. The spirit and teachings of this institution spread throughout the world. With the move from Weimar to Dessau, the Bauhaus had the opportunity to create a building that offered optimal working conditions by being able to develop its own design, quickly becoming an icon of the early Modern movement. With the Bauhaus building, Gropius put into practice his ambition to design living processes and to unite art, technology and aesthetics in the pursuit of functionality. The Bauhaus was the result of the merger of the Academy of Fine Arts and the School of Arts and Crafts, and its aim was to bridge the gap between art and industrial production on the one hand, and art and crafts on the other. It promoted the use of new materials and technologies without undervaluing the legacy of craftsmanship.
