Albumen photograph.
Measurements: 16,3 x 11 cm.
Alexandre de Riquer (1856-1920) worked on several occasions for the Napoleons. In fact, one of his posters dated 1895 is considered as the work that marks the turn towards modernism of the poster artist.
The family saga of professional photographers Compañía Fotográfica Napoleón began its work in 1851 in Barcelona and continued until its closure in 1968. It was started by Antonio Fernández and Anaïs Napoleón, a pioneer of photography in Spain, and continued by three of their seven children: Emilio, Napoleón Francisco and Napoleón Fernando. They worked for the Royal House, making portraits of members of various royal families and obtained decorations in Spain, France and Portugal. The social importance of the Napoleons was also evidenced by their relationships with artists of the time such as Ramon Casas, who made two portraits of Antonio Fernandez, or Alexandre de Riquer. The architects Francisco Rogent y Pedrosa and Puig i Cadafalch had also worked for them when they renovated the studio on the Ramblas in 1900.
