In Flowers, Lídia Vives confronts us with a visual paradox: the coexistence between the ephemeral and the eternal. This self-portrait, of pictorial aesthetics and meticulous artistic direction, presents the artist crowned by a group of roses -symbol of beauty, love and decadence- while her body is invaded by an explosion of butterflies, universal icons of transformation, freedom and transience. The scene is reminiscent of both baroque portraiture and contemporary iconography, with careful lighting reminiscent of the great masters of chiaroscuro. The dark background accentuates the vibrant colors of the floral and animal elements, creating a visual tension between stillness and constant transformation.
between stillness and constant transformation. This work was exhibited in large format at the Morera Museum in Lleida (Spain), and was also part of the Affordable Art Fair in Vienna, represented by the Espai Cavallers Gallery.
-as can be seen in the images of the exhibition, consolidating its international tour and its value as a collector's item. Flowers is a celebration of aesthetics, but also a reminder of the fragility of beauty and the fading moment.
beauty and the instant that fades just when we admire it.
