Masriera Brothers Medal

MASRIERA HERMANOS.
Medal of the Virgin of La Mercè, ca. 1920.
Crafted in 18k yellow gold with pliqué-a-jour enamel. The border features clusters of round-cut rubies and diamonds. The lower portion features blue enamel details. A pearl in the shape of a knob hangs from it. The fixed ring bears the hallmark of the city of Barcelona. On the back is a plaque marked “Masriera Hnos.”
Enamel in perfect condition.

The Masriera firm is one of the leading exponents of Modernist jewelry and goldsmithing in Spain. The Masriera brothers—and more specifically Lluís Masriera—became leading figures in Art Nouveau in terms of the design and craftsmanship of exquisite, highly elaborate jewelry pieces rich in detail, in which enamel and precious stones played a prominent role. Their pieces are admired and sought after by collectors, fetching significant prices at national and international auctions.
