DESCRIPTION
JUAN DE HEVIA BOLAÑO (Oviedo, 1570-Lima, 1623)
"Curia Filípica first and second volume". 1 volume.
Royal press, Madrid, 1825.
In good condition.
Measurements: 31.5 x 22 x 4 cm.
Juan de Hevia Bolaño was a Spanish jurist who, with no known university training, held administrative positions in Spain and then in America, where he settled in Lima. There he published two influential legal treatises: Curia filípica (1603) and Laberinto de comercio terrestre y naval (1617), used as academic texts until the 19th century. However, his authorship has been questioned due to the sophistication of the works in contrast to his lack of formal scholarship. It is suspected that he may have adapted foreign works, adding American references.
