DESCRIPTION

First and second part of the style and method of writing missive letters.
Valencia, next to the Molino de Rovella, 1607.
In period flexible parchment, with handwritten lettering on the spine.
First and second parts in one volume.
Measurements: 15.5 x 10 x 3 cm.

Interesting practical treatise on epistolary writing entitled Primera y segunda parte del estilo y método de escribir cartas misivas, composed by Juan Vicenta Peligero, a native of the city of Valencia de Aragón, and printed in Valencia in 1607. The work is part of the tradition of style manuals and applied rhetoric of the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries, aimed at regulating the correct writing of letters in the various administrative, legal and social spheres, in accordance with the pragmatics in force in Spain.

The volume addresses, in a systematic way, the different genres of letters and replies, adapted to businesses, situations and social ranks, offering models and practical recommendations for an adequate and effective writing. The work is addressed to Don Pedro Sánchez de Calatayud, with a dedication that emphasizes its courtly and administrative character.

The copy presents original period binding in flexible parchment, with evident signs of use and wear, typical of a work of frequent consultation. The spine preserves old handwritten labeling identifying the contents. Interior in reasonable condition, with laid paper, clear typography and presence of stains, darkening and small marginal defects consistent with its age. Complete title page, with woodcut engraving depicting a lion, and imprint indicating its printing in Valencia, at the expense of Insepe Ferrer, book merchant.

A work of notable historical and bibliographical interest, especially relevant for the study of epistolography, practical rhetoric and administration in Golden Age Spain. Attractive copy for collectors of old Spanish books, history of language and documentary practices of the Modern Age, particularly for preserving its original parchment binding.
