DESCRIPTION
PIERRE D'AVESN (France, 1901 - 1990/91)
Ceiling lamp, ca.1930
Molded pressed glass and metal structure.
Signed
Measurements: 80 x 70 cm
Art Deco ceiling lamp designed by Pierre d'Avesn ca.1930, composed of a geometric pressed glass shade with relief decoration of stylized and rhythmic motifs, characteristic of the decorative language of the interwar period. The metal suspension structure reinforces its architectural and refined aesthetics.
The satin treatment of the glass diffuses the light evenly, highlighting the curvilinear reliefs and the stepped design typical of the author's formal repertoire. Signed piece, representative of French Art Deco lighting production.
Pierre D'Avesn was trained at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris and began working very young in the workshop of René Lalique, where he collaborated for twelve years and participated in the design of emblematic models such as Serpent and Tourbillons. In 1927 he joined Daum, managing the Art Deco production of the Luneville factory, mainly oriented to the American market. After the factory closed in 1932, he worked for Verlys between 1937 and 1940. It is likely that he continued to be linked to the art glass industry after World War II.
