Extraordinary Italian circular table top from the 19th century, executed in the refined technique of the "pietra dura", which exhibits a compositional virtuosity of extraordinary complexity. The surface displays a radiant play of diamonds and lozenges arranged in concentric bands that start from a central medallion towards the outer perimeter.
The central medallion houses an eight-pointed star composed of pieces of different varieties of stone, including red jasper, black marble and yellow Siena marble. On the rest of the surface, up to a dozen varieties of marbles and hard stones can be recognized, among them "brèche violette", portoro, "verde antico", "rouge griotte", "giallo di Siena" and several varieties of jasper or alabaster, all of them cut and assembled with precision, which shows the hand of a specialized workshop, most probably Roman or Florentine.
The whole is delimited by a molded brass edge that acts as a perimeter corner.
