DESCRIPTION
Art Nouveau table lamp. France or Belgium, ca. 1915.
Brass, glass cabochons.
It has a patina consistent with its age.
Measurements: 59 x 34 x 34 cm.
This table lamp is an attractive example of late Art Nouveau, in which a taste for precious materials and ornamentation is already combined with a greater geometrization of forms. The semispherical brass shade features a hammered surface embellished with glass cabochons in shades of green and red, and is topped by a delicate band of glass beads that filters and visually enlivens the light.
The fluted stem and the architecturally styled base introduce a more sober and geometric element, characteristic of the transitional years leading up to Art Deco. The hallmarks of the piece are the solidity of the brass, the brilliance of the cabochons, and the lightness of the beaded trim.
