BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Baroque frame; Spain, early 17th century.
Wood and original polychrome of the period.
Measurements: 227 x 142 cm (exterior); 193 x 106 cm (light); 197 x 110 (galze).
Seventeenth century Spanish baroque frame made of wood, retains original polychrome of the time. With a rectangular molded profile, it presents a characteristic of the Baroque language, as it is decorated with the ornamental repertoire of scallops, brackets and classical vegetal elements painted in detail and placed in a symmetrical composition. Another key feature of this language is the fact that, despite the importance of the ornamentation in the frame, it is always subordinated to the structural lines, which should in no way be hidden. As is usual in the Baroque period, the frame presents a regular, classical and balanced structure, perfectly defined, which is never overwhelmed by the decorative elements. The frame appears staggered, alternating carved moldings in relief and others recessed, again clearly baroque forms that seek to arouse expressive effects.
