DESCRIPTION
Louis XV style inkwell, ca. 1880.
Gilded bronze and Coromandel lacquer.
Measurements: 9.5 x 20.5 x 14.5 cm.
Chiseled and gilded bronze inkwell formed by a tray in Coromandel lacquer, a specific type of Chinese lacquer of great quality, very appreciated since the 17th century, characterized by a particular technique of elaboration and decoration. Its name comes from the Coromandel Coast in India, an important trade route through which these objects left China for the West. The tray is embellished with Chinese motifs and has its profile molded in chiseled and gilded bronze. The ink deposits take the form of covered vessels with their original glass interior. The whole set rests on three legs.
