DESCRIPTION
Spanish frame of the 17th century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Presents faults and restorations.
Measurements: 65 x 52 cm (light); 78 x 66 x 4 cm (frame).
This Spanish frame, made of carved and gilded wood, fully responds to the early baroque taste of the time. Its structure presents a straight and robust profile, enriched with a carved decoration that combines scrolls, geometric motifs and striated bands, characteristic elements of the Hispanic ornamentation of the sixteenth century. The gilding gives the whole a sumptuous character. The rhythmic alternation of motifs and the firmness of the ornamental design reveal the work of a Baroque workshop seeking a balance between architectural sobriety and decorative expressiveness.
