DESCRIPTION
George III style frame; XIX century.
Carved and gilded wood.
Measurements: 165 x 81 cm; 82 x 58 cm; 89 x 62 cm.
Architectural frame of great ornamental richness, made of carved and gilded wood. This frame is a remarkable example of the survival of decorative models of the 18th century in the English production of the 19th century, reinterpreted under the aesthetic principles of the George III style. The quality of the carving and the harmony of the proportions allow us to ascribe the piece to a high-level specialized workshop, probably linked to commissions for prestigious aristocratic or bourgeois interiors.
Beyond its utilitarian function, the frame is conceived as an autonomous element of sculptural character, designed to dialogue with the pictorial work and with the architectural space that welcomes it. Its formal refinement and careful execution place it within a representative production of English decorative cabinetmaking of the period.
