DESCRIPTION
Pair of ostrich eggs. Europe, 20th century.
Ostrich eggs and turned wood.
The wood has a small break.
Measurements: 57 x 17,5 x 17,5 cm.
Decorative pair of ostrich eggs mounted on turned wood supports, made in Spain during the 20th century in the ornamental tradition inherited from the old cabinets of curiosities.
The eggs, with a slightly textured surface and homogeneous ivory tonality, are elevated on elegant turned shafts with a stepped base and a needle-shaped top. The woodwork, with its sober and classic lines, brings verticality and balance to the whole, enhancing the sculptural presence of the natural element.
The use of the ostrich egg as a decorative object has a long tradition in Europe, historically associated with exoticism and collecting. In the 20th century, this motif was reinterpreted in a decorative key, being integrated into eclectic interiors where the combination of nature and craftsmanship generated pieces of strong visual impact.
