BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

After FERNAND LEGER (France, 1881 - 1955).
"Le Cycliste", 1948.
Silkscreen.
Printing: Mourlot, Paris.
In very good condition.
Charles Sorlier, engraver.
Measurements: 71 x 94 cm.

Cycling is one of the most representative themes of Fernand Léger's iconography and a recurrent symbol of modernity, dynamism and urban life.

The intervention of engraver Charles Sorlier, Léger's close collaborator and responsible for the graphic translation of many of the artist's works, guarantees a high fidelity to the original plastic language. This silkscreen effectively transfers to the multiple format the formal principles developed by Léger in his post-war painting, characterized by the synthesis between figure, machine and color.

Fernand Léger was one of the key figures of the European avant-garde and an essential protagonist of cubism and modern art in the 20th century. His work is preserved in the collections of the Musée National d'Art Moderne - Centre Pompidou and the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, as well as in international institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Tate in London and the Philadelphia Museum of Art. His visual language, based on the integration of figure, color and the industrial world, had a decisive influence on the development of modern art.
