Leni Sinclair is a German-American photographer and cultural activist known for documenting the music and countercultural scene of the 1960s and 1970s in Detroit; she emigrated to the United States in 1959 and photographed iconic figures such as Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin or Miles Davis, capturing not only concerts but also the social and political context of the time, and was also an active participant in those movements, co-founding the White Panther Party, which makes her work a key testimony where art, music and activism are intertwined.
