“Mao Grey” revisits one of the most recognizable images from Andy Warhol’s body of work, linked to the famous 1972 series dedicated to Mao Zedong. That year, Warhol produced a portfolio of ten silkscreen prints of Mao, placing the Chinese leader’s portrait within the same visual realm of celebrities and icons of mass culture that had defined much of his career.

This version by Sunday B. Morning, produced as an open edition, retains the high-contrast silkscreen treatment that was a hallmark of the original. The reduction of the image to a range of grays, blacks, and whites accentuates its photographic origin and enhances the graphic impact of the face, stripping it of the intense coloration found in other variations to offer a particularly understated interpretation. Copies of Sunday B. Morning’s *Mao Grey* are documented as silkscreen prints on museum-grade cardboard and accompanied by a certificate of edition.

Andy Warhol was the central figure of American Pop Art and one of the most influential artists of the second half of the 20th century. His use of silkscreen printing and images sourced from the media radically transformed the relationship between art, reproduction, and popular culture; his works are part of major international collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
