Jill Cowie married the American abstract painter John Cowie, and together they settled in Medinaceli, Spain, to begin their respective artistic careers. Noticing the considerable American population in the country, they decided to capitalize on that market, which led them to exhibit their works in several American military bases located in Spanish territory (Garrapinillos or Torrejón de Ardoz). Additionally, Jill Cowie showed her work at the American Women's Club in Madrid.
