In Renaissance art, King David is often represented without crown or scepter, without royal attributes, being the painter's intention to emphasize his role as author of the Psalms and as a spiritual rather than political figure. In the biblical tradition, David is often seen as the archetype of the ideal king: just, courageous, pious and devoted to God. The image of David writing can reinforce this vision, showing a balance between power and piety, action and contemplation. Despite being a king, David is remembered in the Bible for his moments of repentance and humility, especially in the Psalms, where he frequently expresses his recognition of his own faults and his dependence on God. Stylistically, we have sought to contrast the intense red of the robe with the dark background of the room, barely hinted at, and the light emanating from the window. The use of the window and the composition is genuinely Renaissance.
