A solitary peasant woman advances towards us along a path that crosses the painting diagonally. To her left, a group of old boats placed on the dry land offers us a melancholic image. In the background, the first houses of the village are drawn and, on the other side, large leafy trees.

Eugène Baudin was a politician and Art Nouveau ceramist, although he also painted landscapes, flowers and figure subjects. Eugène Baudin devoted himself entirely to art from 1898, the year of his retirement from political life. He began to work in Paris, at first, but later moved to the Breton coast and finally to Monaco (1906). He participated in the Universal Exposition of Paris in 1900, and in the Universal Exposition of St. Louis (USA) in 1904.
