This painting, belonging to the Spanish school of the XIX century, represents with vividness and detail a rural scene starring a "garrochista", a typical figure of the Andalusian countryside dedicated to the management of fighting cattle. Executed in oil on canvas, the work displays a luminous and balanced composition, centered on the figure of a rider who, mounted on a white horse in full gallop, guides a group of bulls and cows along a path flanked by lush vegetation with a long pole, the garrocha.
During the 19th century, the painting of genre scenes acquired great relevance within the Spanish artistic production. These representations of the rural world and its protagonists not only served as visual testimony of traditional practices and trades, but also responded to a search for national identity, especially in the face of advancing industrialization and social changes.
