José Belon was a French painter and draftsman formed in the Parisian academic environment and exhibitor in the Salon des Artistes Français, he developed a work inspired in the life of the capital as well as in the landscapes and scenes of the French Midi.
He also stood out as an illustrator for important publications such as Le Petit Journal, Gil Blas or Le Monde illustré, and produced advertising posters in the context of the boom of fin-de-siècle poster art. In 1909, together with his brother, he promoted the creation of the museum of Uzès (now the Georges Borias Museum), to which he donated several works.
His career reflects the versatility of the artist of the Third Republic: solid in academic painting and fully integrated in the graphic and editorial culture of his time.
