This work follows the model of the painting of Eduardo Dalbono titled "The new song with words and music", realized in 1885 and at present in the collection of the Musel Revoltella in Trieste.
Edoardo Dalbono was an Italian painter linked to the Neapolitan school of the second half of the 19th century. After beginning his studies at the Royal Institute of Fine Arts of Naples, he continued his training in the studio of Nicola Palizzi, approaching the painting from life and the environment of the Scuola di Resina. From the 1860s he exhibited regularly in Naples and other cities, obtaining various distinctions in national and international exhibitions. Between 1878 and 1888 he lived in Paris, where, thanks to his friendship with Giuseppe De Nittis, he collaborated with the Goupil & Cie gallery. Later he taught painting at the Academy of Naples and actively participated in the artistic life of the city as founder of several associations.
