This painting follows the model of the work "La colegiata de Iglesia de Guadalupe", made by Luis de Coto in 1859 and currently in the collection of the National Museum of Art of Mexico (No. 19332). The painting represents a view of the famous architectural complex of the Sanctuary of Guadalupe, one of the most important devotional centers in the Hispanic world. The work combines topographical interest with a costumbrista narrative, integrating the representation of the sacred urban landscape with scenes of daily life.
From the compositional point of view, the artist organizes the scene in several planes: in the foreground, groups of figures dressed in popular costumes animate the space, providing dynamism and anecdotal character; in the middle plane, the presence of a locomotive introduces an element of modernity that contrasts with the religious architecture, underlining the coexistence between tradition and progress in nineteenth-century Mexico; in the background, the domes and towers of the sanctuary rise clearly, forming the visual and symbolic axis of the work. In stylistic terms, the work is situated in the tradition of Mexican popular and devotional painting, with affinities towards ex-voto painting and urban views.
