Domingo began his artistic training in Paris alongside his father, the painter Francisco Domingo Marqués. There, he also gained firsthand exposure to French Impressionism. In 1906, he moved to Madrid and enrolled at the San Fernando Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Antonio Muñoz Degraín. He participated in national and international exhibitions, winning third prize at the 1908 National Fine Arts Exhibition, second prize in 1910, and first prize in 1915. In 1911, he held a solo exhibition in Rome at the Fine Arts Pavilion. He also exhibited his work regularly at various galleries in Spain and London, such as Baillie and Tooth. A genre painter, he specialized in bullfighting themes, which brought him great fame and prestige. His work is characterized by the expressiveness of his brushstrokes and color application, capturing reality through a sensibility that connects with the tradition of Goya, Lucas, and Alenza. The spontaneity, fluidity, and dynamism of his work are largely due to his ability to commit reality to memory and then translate it onto the canvas with his own distinctive touch, simplifying the lines and softening the colors. This vibrant emotion was also appreciated by great international artists of the time, such as John Singer Sargent and Gerald Kelly, who were among his clients. Roberto Domingo is represented in the Prado Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in Granada, the Provincial Museum of Cádiz, the Municipal Museum of Madrid, the Las Ventas Bullring Museum in Madrid, La Maestranza in Seville, Valencia, and Viana de Cega (Valladolid), the Drawing Museum at Larrés Castle (Huesca), and the museums in Havana and Hemingway in Cuba, among many others.
