This painting drinks from the so-called "Russian realism", a pictorial current born partly thanks to the initiative of Alexei Venetsianov (1789-1847), a painter who exalted the poetic image of the man of the village and the village nature. He founded a school of painting for the poor, which was of great importance for the history of art. Russian realist paintings were characterised by the pursuit of simplification and sincerity of expression, as well as the direct perception of the world. Later, genre painting first acquired a moral and social sense thanks to Pabvel Fedotov (1815-1852), who showed society's imperfections and vices in order to help it overcome them.
Trained at the Minsk Art School and the Belarusian Academy of Arts, which he entered in 1985, Ivantsov transferred to the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts, where he successfully graduated in 1993, showing great mastery in painting. He subsequently pursued postgraduate studies at the studio of Mikhail Andreevich Savitsky. The artist began to exhibit actively since 1996. He participated in vernissages and group and personal exhibitions of various ranks in Russia, Europe and America. Permanent exhibitions of the artist can be found in Moscow galleries "Bagheera" and "Expression" and in St. Petersburg "National Art Gallery" and "Mikhailov Gallery". The artist's paintings can be found in many private collections in Russia and abroad, and monumental paintings adorn the streets of the northern capital and the walls of private clients' flats.
