FRANCESC ARTIGAU SEGUÍ (Barcelona, 1940).
"Female nude", 1976.
Oil on canvas.
Signed and dated in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 130 x 130 cm; 132 x 132 cm (frame).
Painter and engraver, Francesc Artigau was formed in the Schools of Arts and Crafts and Fine Arts of San Jorge, in Barcelona, and later he obtained the Castellblanch scholarship. He passionately defends the artisanal facet of painting, and his work is influenced by Pop Art, evolving later without losing contact with the everyday environment, always within a colorful figuration. An admirer of Piero della Francesca and Matisse, Artigau plays with perspectives and illusionistic effects in the treatment of eternal themes such as the woman, the model and the artist's studio. He has held exhibitions both in Spain and abroad, and his awards include the City of Terrassa and the City of Hospitalet. Painting and literature are often mixed in his paintings and other artistic projects, such as book illustration. He is represented in the Museums of Contemporary Art in Madrid and Seville, and in the MACBA in Barcelona.
