BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
JAUME MALARET (Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Girona, 1940).
"Sky over Pals".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 81 x 60 cm; 100 x 79 cm (frame).
Jaume Malaret studied scenography at the Institute of the Theater of Barcelona, where he had Josep Mestres Cabanes as a teacher. He could not officially study Fine Arts because he was working with his father as a mechanic, but while studying scenography he will sneak, whenever he can, in the classes of the School of Fine Arts of Sant Jordi. At the age of eighteen he started working as a draftsman in an advertising agency, and later in a film studio dedicated to cartoons and commercial illustration. In 1976 he returns to his homeland and devotes himself fully to painting. The following year he held his first exhibition in Sant Feliu, in the Actis gallery, and since then he has shown his work repeatedly in this gallery. In 1978 he finally manages to exhibit in Barcelona, and a year later he goes to Paris and comes into contact with the Tamenaga gallery, which is interested in his work. Through this art gallery, and for several years from 1980 onwards, he will show his work in Tokyo and Osaka. From this moment on Malaret begins to gain recognition in Spain, through successive exhibitions at the Kreisler (1981), Dalmau (1983), Tom Maddock (1983, 1984) and María Salvat (1988, 1990) galleries, among others. With an increasingly mature work, the painter also achieved success in Germany and Switzerland, where he exhibited repeatedly in the eighties and nineties, and in the twenty-first century also in the United States. He is currently represented in the International Olympic Museum of Lausanne, the Museum of Drawing Castillo de Larrés in Huesca, the Banco de Sabadell, La Caixa and Vila-Casasas Foundations, the Agrupación Mutua del Comercio e Industria and the Nissan Motor Ibérica collection, among others.
