This painting by Maurice Delaunay represents a Parisian urban scene in the middle of winter, probably set in the Place de la République, where a monumental statue presides over the space. With a loose technique and rapid brushstrokes typical of late Impressionism, the artist captures the snowy atmosphere of the city through a palette of grays, blues and ochers that evoke the diffused light of a winter afternoon. In the foreground, a woman and a child, along with other figures and a horse-drawn carriage, add a narrative and costumbrist component that humanizes the composition. The work, clearly inspired by Paris, is notable for its sensitive treatment of space, light and movement, and reflects Delaunay's interest in capturing the daily life of the city with a nostalgic and lyrical approach.
