This painting by Rik Brouwers shows a domestic scene charged with intimacy and tenderness: a mother and her small son sleep hugging each other in bed, while a teddy bear rests beside them.
From an academic point of view, this piece is inscribed in the figurative tradition of the twentieth century, which, in contrast to the more rupturist avant-garde currents, retains an interest in the human, the everyday and the emotional. Brouwers resorts to a warm palette, with a predominance of ochre, yellow and pink tones, which intensify the atmosphere of recollection. The loose and expressive brushstroke brings dynamism to the canvases and the folds of the bed, without losing the compositional clarity that focuses attention on the serene faces of mother and child.
