This character, dressed in wide work clothes, immediately refers to the human and social imaginary characteristic of the Basque Country, linked to the rural or marine world and to a dignified, sober and silent vision of the individual.
The composition is articulated by means of a loose but sure drawing, where the black line defines the structural lines of the body, while the pastel builds the volumes based on glazes and chromatic masses. The predominant tones are muted and contrasted with the warm orange accents of the face and hands, which concentrate the expressive attention and give the figure an almost sculptural presence.
The work is thus situated within the tradition of the Basque figurative school, in which the mastery of drawing, the expressive use of color and attention to the popular world are combined with a modern sensibility, far removed from anecdotal costumbrismo and focused on the plastic and emotional strength of the figure.
