Essentially self-taught, Carlos Crego began his exhibition career at an early age at the Sala Alma in Vigo. In 1983, thanks to a grant from the Diputación de Pontevedra, he settled in Barcelona. His pictorial language is defined by a structural use of unique color on which emerge chromatic accents of great expressive power. In his work, lyrical abstraction serves as a framework to rescue scenes of everyday life, with a central focus on the human figure that oscillates between the synthesis of color planes and the energy of the material brushstroke. Through a sober palette of earths, grays and blacks, his work constitutes a profound introspective investigation of the human condition.
