PERE SEGIMON CISA (Barcelona, 1904 - 1976)
"Female allegory".
Oil on canvas.
Signed in the lower right corner.
Measurements: 113 x 92 cm; 130 x 110 cm (frame).
In "Feminine Allegory", Pere Segimon constructs a scene of refined sensuality and clear symbolic vocation. The female figure, elegantly wrapped in a brightly colored shawl, stands before a mirror reflecting a mythological scene with two female nudes. The composition establishes a dialogue between reality and representation, between the contemporary woman and the classical tradition, suggesting a reflection on beauty, desire and artistic contemplation.
The treatment of light and flesh reveals a solid academic training, while the loose brushstroke and chromatic vibration introduce nuances close to impressionism. The artist shows special skill in the textures -printed silk, pearls, velvet- and in the atmospheric construction of the background, where the reflected scene acquires an almost dreamlike character.
Pere Segimon trained at the Llotja School in Barcelona and completed his studies in Paris, where he began to exhibit. In 1923 he presented his work at the Sala Parés and in 1927 he copied the masters of the Prado Museum, consolidating a classical technical base. After the Civil War he exhibited in several galleries in Barcelona. A deaf-mute painter, he specialized in the female figure, developing a language that combines academicism and impressionism, as can be seen in this work of careful elegance and marked allegorical intention.
