He was one of the emerging artists in the Spanish painting of the generation formed in the postwar period. His innovative and risky work took place initially in the autarkic period of the dictatorship, in which the isolation made the knowledge of the avant-garde very difficult, and later during the following decade until his disappearance in which the contacts with the exterior were more fluid and in which the postponed question about the legitimacy of the non-figurative art was definitively solved for the Spanish art.
