Víctor Mira was a painter, sculptor, engraver and writer, mostly self-taught. At the age of eighteen he had his first individual exhibition in Zaragoza. Shortly afterwards he moved to Madrid, where he began to consolidate his artistic career and participated in the Pamplona Encounters, where he met John Cage. In the mid-seventies he traveled and worked between Spain and Germany, developing series such as Spanische Haltung and Manos. Later he settled in Barcelona, where he began new pictorial cycles and published his first book of poems. At the end of the decade he began his international projection with exhibitions in Munich and New York. Since then his career acquired a global dimension, with exhibitions in Europe, the United States and Latin America. In 1983 he was invited by the Meadows Museum and worked in printmaking workshops at Southern Methodist University, as well as living temporarily in New York. That same year he also began important sculptural series in iron.
Throughout his life he continued to exhibit internationally and to publish literary and graphic work. In 1997 he participated in the New York Biennial and shortly before his death he received the award for best living Spanish artist at ARCOmadrid. His work is preserved in important institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía and the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona, among others.
