DESCRIPTION
FREDERIC AMAT NOGUERA (Barcelona, 1952).
"Cercles d'ulls" 2009.
Mixed media on paper.
Signed in the lower left corner.
With "Arxiu Amat" label on the back.
Measurements: 21 x 30 cm; 24,5 x 33 cm (frame).
Work belonging to the characteristic imaginary of Frederic Amat, in which the artist develops a plastic language based on primary signs, gestures and organic elements. The spiral, recurrent in his production, alludes to the look, the perception and the ritual dimension of the pictorial sign. The chromatic economy emphasizes the graphic strength of the work and its almost calligraphic character.
Painter, engraver and scenographer, Amat has exhibited his work both nationally and internationally, with countries such as France, Germany, Italy and the United States standing out, and between 1993 and 1994 an important retrospective was dedicated to him at the Rufino Tamayo Museum in Mexico, the Joan Miró Foundation and the Institute of America in Granada.
In 2007 he was awarded the National Visual Arts Prize of Catalonia, granted by the Generalitat, in recognition of the exhibition held at the Carles Taché Gallery.
Nowadays his work is divided between important private collections and different art centers such as the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona.
