Pavlotzky was born in Israel in 1918 and settled in Uruguay in 1930, country where he developed his entire artistic career and with which he maintained a deep cultural bond. Trained together with Guillermo Laborde and José Cúneo, he was part of the avant-garde movements linked to geometric abstraction and Uruguayan concretism since the 1950s, together with figures such as José Pedro Costigliolo and María Freire. He was also the founder of the influential "Grupo 8", a key reference of Uruguayan experimental art.
Throughout his career he participated in important national and international salons, obtaining outstanding awards such as the First Prize at the National Salon of Uruguay in 1959 and the FUNSA Prize in 1969. He represented Uruguay in international events such as the São Paulo Biennial and the First Biennial of Córdoba. His work evolved from geometric abstraction to informalism and material art, especially his collages, serigraphs and engravings from the 1950s to 1970s. Recognized for the chromatic subtlety and technical refinement of his graphic production, Pavlotzky occupies a fundamental place in the history of modern Uruguayan art.
