Yturralde holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from the Polytechnic University of Valencia and is a full member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos. He made his solo debut in 1969 with an exhibition titled “Computable Forms,” held at the Computing Center of the University of Madrid. He soon began receiving prominent awards, such as the Ibizagrafic Prize from the Museum of Modern Art of Ibiza in 1972 and 1976, and the Europa Prize in Ancona, Italy, in 1972. With a scholarship from the Juan March Foundation, he traveled in 1974 to further his studies at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). After his time in the United States, he was invited to participate in the Toyama Now International Triennial in Japan in 1990. Over the next two years, he traveled throughout the Soviet Union, invited by the Union of Russian Artists to teach classes on his work in Moscow, Leningrad, and Samarkand, among other cities. He continued to receive awards, and in 1996 he was invited by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in Mexico City. Yturralde has exhibited and given lectures around the world and has participated in prominent international group exhibitions since the beginning of his career: the São Paulo Biennial (1967), the Museum of Fun in Tokyo (1979), the Spanish Institute in New York (1996), etc. Particularly noteworthy are his solo exhibitions held at MIT and the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, as well as at various galleries in Paris, Moscow, Spain, the United States, and Japan. Yturralde’s work is represented in national and international museums such as the Museum of Abstract Art in Cuenca, the Brooklyn Museum, the Harvard Art Museum, the Asahi Shimbun Museum in Tokyo, the Novgorod State Museum in Russia, the Patio Herreriano in Valladolid, and the Reina Sofía National Art Museum.
