The composition revolves around a white volume that takes on a concentric, doughnut-like shape—a recurring iconographic motif in the artist’s work. This figure is composed of small, human-like creatures that appear to be moving across the canvas, one of which stands out due to its black finish. These figures, repeated and scattered across the entire surface, create a sense of collective movement, flow, and accumulation, evoking human dynamics linked to coexistence, shared identity, and contemporary social energy.
A design professor for Spain’s most prestigious companies for over 20 years, Kastro focuses his efforts on technological creations geared toward avant-garde and innovative art environments, where his installations—including interactive and tactile works—can be seen in Barcelona. In his visual art, he has developed a self-taught body of work. A great connoisseur and follower of abstract expressionist movements in his early period, his works display strong elements of Tachism and Informalism; later, however, his work reveals a very different approach to understanding contemporary abstract art. A tireless explorer of materials and elements, he experiments—depending on the moment and the form—with materials, textures, and even structures, leading him to create pieces whose purpose is to convey distinct feelings and emotions to everyone. He founded Maculae in 2018 with the goal of creating a small group of artists from various disciplines, focused on sharing artistic experiences and complementing the national art market. His work is found throughout Europe. He has held various exhibitions nationwide, organized in collaboration with the Madrid Association of Decorators and Interior Designers (CODDIM), as well as at LUMINARIA 3, an international contemporary art exhibition. Kastro’s work is found in more than 40 countries, and it is characteristic of his approach to always be exploring new materials and media in order to investigate new forms of expression.
