BID HISTORY
DESCRIPTION
Model of "La Niña"; I.C jewelers, Spain, XX century.
Silver.
Preserves I.C. jewelers plate.
Measurements: 47,5 x 44 x 14 cm (total).
The piece is a silver model that reproduces with meticulous detail La Niña, one of the three caravels that were part of the expedition of Christopher Columbus in 1492. Made in the 20th century by I.C. Jewelers.
The model shows the complete hull, deck, rudder and rigging, highlighting the fidelity with which the proportions and structures of the original ship are faithfully represented. The sails, open and taut, contribute to give the whole a sense of restrained dynamism.
The treatment of the metal reveals a careful casting, embossing and chiseling work that allows us to perceive the constructive details: the rigging, the rigging and the ornamental finials, all executed with almost miniaturist precision.
The choice of silver, a noble material traditionally associated with sumptuousness and prestige, gives the model a commemorative character.
