BID HISTORY

DESCRIPTION

Charles X clock, c. 1830 and later.
Bronze.
Liverpool pocket watch machinery of the late nineteenth century.
Measurements: 23 x 8.5 x 8.5 cm.
This table clock, dated circa 1830 and linked to the period of Charles X in France, represents a refined example of the late neoclassical taste that characterized decoration under the Bourbon Restoration. The piece fuses horological functionality with a high symbolic and aesthetic content, revealing both the artistic aspirations and ideological values of the time.
The clock's structure rests on a richly ornamented golden base, supported by decorative claw feet with vegetal details, evoking classical motifs. This base serves as a pedestal for a patinated bronze sculptural figure representing a winged cherub or genie of time, kneeling in a posture that suggests effort and solemnity, while holding the body of the clock above his head.
