The important French brand Cartier was founded in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, when he took over the workshop of his master. Years later, in 1874, his son Alfred Cartier would begin to manage the company, and later his three grandsons, Louis, Pierre and Jacques, who would make the Cartier brand recognized worldwide. In 1904 Louis-François Cartier designed for his friend, the Brazilian aviator. Alberto Santos-Dumont, a watch with which to check the time without losing control of his "flying machine". When in 1906 Santos-Dumont got out of his airplane and looked at his wrist to check the time, the many spectators were fascinated by this novel watch invented by the prestigious French house. It was a watch of very simple shapes, made of gold and with a brown leather strap with a buckle. It caused such astonishment that Cartier began to produce it in series, baptizing it as "Cartier Santos". Years later it was discontinued, until its reappearance in 1979, following the aesthetics of yesteryear, but varying sizes and materials, maintaining the original spirit and aesthetics of that first watch.
In the description of the watches when it is marked "in working order" it means that the watch is in operation. Since collector's watches often have delicate and complex mechanisms, the buyer is responsible for any general service, overhaul, battery change, adjustment or repair that may be necessary. We do not guarantee the perfect functioning of any watch. All photographs of our watches are original and have been taken by our photographers, that is to say, we do not work with stock photography and that is why the photographs are considered part of the cataloging.
