Ceramist and art critic, Josep Llorens Artigas was formed in the School of the Fish market, extending his studies in the Artistic Circle of Sant Lluc and in the Superior School of Beautiful Trades of Frances d'Assis Gali, place in which he knew Joan Miró. Settled in 1924 in the city of Paris, during his training he met important ceramists such as Delaherche (1857-1940), pioneer of the Art Nouveau style in France, developing an oriental style, following a very egalitarian aesthetic throughout his production, characterized by formal purification and renewing glazes and colors. Considered one of the main promoters of artistic ceramics during the 1930s, Llorens Artigas innovated in the style, moving away from the neo-historicist tastes that prevailed at the time and thus configuring a work valued for its material and technical qualities. Specifically, the piece presented here is made of stoneware with a green cover with slight chromatic changes that veer around the greens. The formal purity that characterizes the work of Llorens is understood in the rounded volumes and in its smooth and polished surface, full of brightness and nuances.
