César Pattein was a painter who centered his production in the rural scenes and labors of the peasants, focusing his look in the representation of the childhood and the youth. His paintings were influenced by different artistic movements, such as Romanticism and Realism, which led him to represent scenes of rural life with a certain idealized air. In general, their paintings sought to show the beauty of nature, peasant life and rural landscapes, often with an emotional charge and an individual perspective. As we observe, the painting in tender has been resolved with a diluted impasto technique, agile touches that outline the feral vegetation. The impetuous brushstrokes and the predominance of ivory tones give the scene a timeless look.
César Pattein studied under the French naturalist painter, Jules Breton, and exhibited his paintings at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, where he was awarded a third class medal in 1896.
